The living room was quiet, except for the heavy, anxious breathing of the two siblings. On the glass coffee table sat a small, metallic silver box—sleek, locked, and completely out of place.
​”We shouldn’t be doing this,” she whispered, her eyes darting toward the hallway, terrified that their parents might walk in at any moment. Her heart hammered against her ribs. They had strict rules about touching things in their father’s private study, but today, curiosity had won.
​Her younger brother, however, wasn’t looking back. His eyes were wide, locked onto the mysterious object with a mixture of awe and adrenaline.
​”Look what I found,” he whispered back, his voice trembling with excitement. He leaned in closer, his gaze intense. “I think… I think it’s something big.”
​”Put it back,” she pleaded, but her own curiosity was starting to paralyze her.
