A crowded subway station. A pregnant woman in a yellow dress stands alone, pleading: “I didn’t come here to cause trouble. I just need help.” A woman in a suit snaps: “Please escort her out. She is disrupting everything.”
Tears run down the pregnant woman’s face. No one moves.
Then an elderly veteran in uniform steps forward. He looks the woman in the suit in the eye and says: “I built this institution and I will not stand for this cruelty.”
Her smug smile vanishes. Shock replaces it. The pregnant woman breaks down — but this time, a steady hand rests on her shoulder.
