Under a dark sky and pouring rain, a car pulled up sharply outside a suburban home. A young girl with smeared black makeup running down her face burst out of the passenger side, sobbing hysterically. Hearing the commotion, her mother ran out onto the front porch, her bathrobe soaking instantly. “How many times have I told you?!” the mother screamed in a mix of panic and anger. The girl dropped to her knees on the wet asphalt, completely broken. “I’m sorry, mom! I’m so sorry!” Seeing her daughter’s despair, the mother’s anger melted away. She dropped to the ground, pulling her into the rain-soaked grass, while their family dog rushed out to comfort them.
