In 1981, a fragile premature baby was born weighing just 3.2 pounds. His chances of survival were heartbreakingly slim, and his family feared the worst. But a dedicated doctor, Dr. Michael Shannon, refused to give up hope.

That tiny baby’s name was Chris Trokey. Against all odds, Shannon’s medical expertise, determination, and compassion saved the newborn’s life. It was a moment that forever changed two families, though neither could imagine how their story would come full circle.

For Dr. Shannon, saving lives was part of his everyday calling. He had no idea that this particular child, one of countless he treated, would one day play an even greater role in his own survival. Fate, however, had other plans.
