Newly declassified intelligence documents released by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard claim that Russia’s foreign intelligence service (SVR) collected extensive information on Hillary Clinton’s physical and mental health during the 2016 presidential campaign but chose not to release it. According to a House Intelligence Committee report, Russian President Vladimir Putin believed Clinton would win the election and withheld the information to avoid damaging future diplomatic relations.
The report alleges that Russian operatives intercepted Democratic National Committee communications discussing Clinton’s health. These messages reportedly described “intensified psycho-emotional problems,” including severe mood swings, episodes of anger, aggression, and sudden cheerfulness. The documents claim she was prescribed heavy tranquilizers and placed on a strict medical regimen. By September 2016, internal Democratic emails allegedly reflected concerns from President Barack Obama and top party leaders about her condition, calling it “extraordinarily alarming” and fearing it could harm her chances against Donald Trump.
Additional health issues cited in the report include Type 2 diabetes, ischemic heart disease, deep vein thrombosis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease—conditions said to have been kept secret by her campaign staff. Despite having this information, the SVR reportedly recommended against releasing it, fearing that if Clinton won, exposing her health problems could provoke serious diplomatic fallout.
The report also alleges that Russian intelligence obtained emails outlining a Clinton-approved plan to connect Trump to Putin and Russian hacking operations, intended to divert attention from the controversy surrounding her private email server. This claim aligns with previous findings from Special Counsel John Durham’s investigation, which concluded there was evidence of politically motivated efforts within the Clinton campaign to influence the media narrative on Russian election interference.
In a press briefing, Gabbard said the documents reveal “an orchestrated narrative by the previous administration to undermine a duly elected president,” accusing the Obama-era intelligence community of supporting what she described as a “soft coup” through the promotion of the Trump-Russia collusion theory. Senator Roger Marshall echoed her remarks, insisting the American people deserve transparency and accusing Democratic leaders of hiding Clinton’s health issues while advancing a false narrative against Trump.
Neither Clinton nor representatives of the Obama administration have issued an official response. Congressional Republicans have signaled possible hearings on the newly released material as election integrity, misinformation, and national security continue to dominate the political conversation ahead of 2026.
